The children of Esperanza Juvenil share an interest in life, motivation, a sense of responsibility and a commitment to continue learning.  All come from difficult backgrounds in which their families and communities cannot support their educational dreams or healthy, safe development.  
 
Esperanza Juvenil provides these young people with the opportunity to pursue their education with the goal that they will achieve a college education, reach their maximum potential as individuals.
 
One-third of the Esperanza Juvenil children and youth speak a Mayan language as their first language. Their first languages include Tzu´utujil, K´iche, Kaqchiquel and Mam. Sixty percent of the Esperanza Juvenil children and youth are girls.  Thirty-five percent of the children come from rural parts of Guatemala; the rest come from the Capital and surrounding areas.
